We tried to use the speedtest-cli repo with pip3 on ubuntu 20.x focal and debian 10.x buster to prepare our next speed test, however, it gave different errors for international servers, and the open source repo have not updated for quite a while. We switched to the official Speedtest® Apps CLI.
We tried on both open source with speedtest-cli by speedtest api and official speedtest cli. At the time of writing, we can confirm that speedtest api do not support not on the list speedtest server, check by –list option. Please find the following examples.
From the above examples, both app cannot test other servers is not listed. As a result, you cannot test speed on somewhere out of your region without a browser at this time, and the list of servers are randomly shown. But it is good enough to test internet speed in our purpose. We would like to see if this restriction will be ease in the future.
